Isobutylene
Organic hydrocarbons such as isobutylene are found in their most basic form in crude oil. Crude oil must undergo a treatment process called fractionation which sorts the hydrocarbons according to length. Isobutylene is a shorter, four-carbon molecule, and at standard temperatures it forms a colourless, highly flammable gas.

At CRR Limited, we have been providing a professional service when it comes to speciality gases like isobutylene for decades; the high levels of customer service we offer are a matter of personal pride for our teams. We are dedicated to providing each of our customers with a reliable, and cost effective supply of various speciality and industrial gases such as isobutylene to meet their needs.

What is isobutylene used for?
Isobutylene is used to manufacture maleic anhydride, butanol, butadiene, highly-branched motor fuels to increase the anti-knock properties of carburetter motor fuels plus raw materials for polymers such as butyl rubber, polyisobutene and polybutene.
Mixed polybutenes are used as adhesives, sealants and additives for other polymers. Butyl rubber is a highly elastic light and oxidation-resistant polyisobutene that contains small amounts of butadiene or isoprene which are mainly used for motor car inner tubes/tyres.
